How do I join Flutopia? Do I have to audition?There is no formal audition to be a part of our group. We do ask that everyone fill out an application prior to attending and meet the minimum criteria. We encourage and welcome you to sit in and play with us a few times to get a feel for whether or not you are comfortable with the level of music we play. Only some of us have music degrees; most just have a passion for playing flute. From there, you can let us know if you are interested in joining as a regular member.
Is there a minimum age to join?Yes. We ask that members be at least 18 years old.
Do I need to have my own instrument(s) or other supplies?Yes. We do not provide instruments, music stands, pencils, folders, or instrument stands.
How often does Flutopia perform?We play for the public an average of 3-4 times per year. We regularly perform at the Texas Flute Society Festival, Ronald McDonald House, North Park Center Holiday Events, local retirement communities, and libraries. Performances are typically indoors.
What if I have to miss a rehearsal or performance?We all have other responsibilities that sometimes take priority and we understand that things come up. Family and health come first! We just ask that you let us know by updating your RSVP as soon as possible (ideally several weeks out if able) so we can ensure that all parts are covered.
